The Temple in Jerusalem

Cyrus and Darius allow the Temple to be rebuilt under Ezra and Nehemiah

The Jews under Cyrus go home and reestablish themselves under Ezra (fl. 480-440 B.C.) and Nehemiah (fl. 500-400 B.C.) and the law and the temple, but they are opposed by the Samaritans when rebuilding the temple and reestablishing themselves in Jerusalem. Retaking the Temple

Destruction of the Temple

Flavius Titus led the siege of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. Since the siege proved ineffective at stopping the Jewish revolt, the city's pillaging and looting and destruction of Herod's Temple (Second Temple) soon followed.

Rebuilding of the Temple

For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. - 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

If the man of lawlessness has yet to be revealed and will sit in the literal temple of God, that necessitates a rebuilding of the temple to occur before the day of the Lord comes. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4)
