Herod the Great, King of the Jews

King, tetrarch. King of Judea. Father of Archelaus. (Matthew 2:22)

Magi from the east came in search of the newborn king of the Jews. Herod was troubled and had the magi find the child and report back, so he could "worship" Him. When they obviously were not returning, he killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were 2 or under. He died, and Archelaus reigned over Judea in his place. (Matthew 2)

Herod killed James the brother of John with the sword and arrested Peter to please the Jews. (Acts 12:1-5)

An angel of the Lord struck Herod down, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last. (Acts 12:20-23)
