"...if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.” - Genesis 4:7
The serpent tempts the woman, and man disobeys God's command not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
The Lord God set man in the garden of Eden and commanded him, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” However, he ate of the forbidden fruit when his wife brought it to him. Their eyes were opened, and they knew they were naked and tried to cover themselves with fig leaf loincloths.
When God was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, the man and woman hid among the trees because of their nakedness. God asked the man who told him he was naked, and he claimed the woman had given him the forbidden fruit. She blamed the serpent's deception, so ultimately, God cursed him to work the cursed ground in pain until he returns to the dust of the ground. However, He also cursed the serpent's offspring to ultimately be defeated by his wife's offspring.
The man called his wife Eve because she was the mother of all living, and God clothed them both in garments of skins. He sent the couple out of the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken and guarded the way back with the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way so that they could not eat of the tree of life and live forever.
(Genesis 3)
Cain fails to rule over his sin, and his descendant Lamech furthered his sin
Cain allowed his anger over his rejected offering to lead to his murder of Abel, despite God's warning to rule over sin. He was cursed to wander the earth as a fugitive and struggle to profit from working the fields, though anyone who dare kill him shall receive vengeance sevenfold. His descendant, Lamech, took two wives and killed a man for striking him, declaring his revenge to be seventy-sevenfold of God's protection over Cain.
(Genesis 4)
God observes that all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth and plans the Flood to destroy all flesh
As man multiplied on the earth, the sons of God had children with the daughters of man, and the Lord saw his wickedness, the continually evil thoughts of his heart, his violence, and the corruption of the earth. The Lord limited man's years to 120 and told Noah, a righteous man, of his intentions to wipe the wicked generation from the earth. "I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. ... For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die."
