Goliath

Goliath of Gath

Six cubits and a span tall with a helmet of bronze, a coat of mail that weighs five thousand shekels of bronze, bronze leg armor, and a bronze javelin with a shaft like a weaver's beam and a spearhead weighing six hundred shekels of iron. (1 Samuel 17:4-7)

Goliath challenges the LORD's army

Emerged as a champion between the Philistines and the Israelites (both on mountains with a valley between them in the area around Socoh, Azekah, Ephes-dammim, and the Valley of Elah). He challenged the army of the living God, saying, "Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us. I defy the ranks of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together." (1 Samuel 17:1-11) He challenged Israel for 40 days. (1 Samuel 17:16)

David challenges Goliath

David, a young, handsome boy, came out to challenge him with a staff, so he asked him, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks? Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the field." David told him the LORD saves not with sword and spear. As he arose to fight David, David slung a stone that sank into his forehead upon impact, killing him. David took the Philistine's sword and cut off his head to deliver to Saul. (1 Samuel 17:41-58)

David receives Goliath's sword as provisions while fleeing Saul

Goliath's sword was kept at Nob. (1 Samuel 21:1,9)

When David came to Nob and took the bread of the Presence, he also asked Ahimelech the priest for a spear or sword, and he was offered the sword of Goliath the Philistine, wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. (1 Samuel 21:1-9) Doeg the Edomite witnessed this and reported Ahimelech's provision of the sword to David to Saul, ultimately resulting in the slaughter of almost all the priests and those in Nob. (1 Samuel 22)
