The Mosaic corpus are structured as a covenant document. The suzerainty treaties drawn up by kings of the Hittite empire are the covenant documents that are most similar to Deuteronomy.

Abrahamic Covenant

When defining the land promised to Abram and his offspring, the Lord said, “To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites.” (Genesis 15:18-21)

Sarah died in Kiriah-arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham mourned her there then bought the field of Ephron in Machpelah, which was to the east of Mamre, from Ephron the son of Zohar as a burial place in the presence of the Hittites, before all who went in at the gate of his city. (Genesis 23)
