Ark

Noah's Ark

The Lord orders Noah to build an ark to preserve his family and groups of every animal and bird

The Lord saw man's great wickedness and regretted making man on the earth, setting out to make an end of all flesh through a flood. He found a righteous man, Noah, blameless in his generation, and tells him to make an ark to preserve himself, his family, and two of every animal and bird. He was also told to take food for everybody and the animals. Noah was obedient to God.

(Genesis 6)

Noah goes into the ark and the flood falls

7 days before the rain fell, the Lord told Noah to go into the ark with his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives. As commanded, 7 pairs of all clean animals, 1 pair of each unclean animal, and 7 pairs of each bird went into the ark with Noah. The Lord shut them in.

The fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened in the 600th year of Noah's life, in the 2nd month, on the 17th day of the month. Rain fell for 40 days and 40 nights, and the ark floated on the waters that covered the mountains 15 cubits deep. All flesh died apart from Noah and those with him in the ark. The waters prevailed 150 days.

(Genesis 7)

The flood recedes

God remembered Noah and the ark's creatures and sent a wind, closed the fountains of the deep, closed heaven's windows, and restrained the rain, so that the waters abated after 150 days. On 7/17, the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat. After 40 days, Noah tested whether the waters had dried by sending out a raven and a dove from the ark's window. On 1/1 of the 601st year, Noah removed the ark's covering and saw the ground was dry. On 2/27, the earth dried out, and God told Noah to bring everyone out so they may multiply on the earth. Noah obeyed.

(Genesis 8)
