Dove

And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. - Genesis 8:11

Flood

During the flood, Noah sends out a raven to see if the waters had subsided from the face of the ground, but it went to and fro until the waters were dried up from the earth. Then he sent forth a dove from him to see if the waters had subsided from the face of the ground, but the dove returned when she found no place to rest her foot. He put out his hand and brought her into the ark with him and sent her out again in 7 more days. This time, she brought a freshly plucked olive leaf, and Noah knew the waters had subsided. After 7 more days, he sent the dove out again, and she did not return anymore.

(Genesis 8:6-12)

The Shulammite

The Shulammite's beloved calls her his dove and summons her from the cliff, for winter is over.

  • O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
  • in the crannies of the cliff,
  • let me see your face,
  • let me hear your voice,
  • for your voice is sweet,
  • and your face is lovely.

(Song of Solomon 2:8-14)
