Wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. - James 1:5

Proverbs couples wisdom with understanding, insight, and knowledge.

Wisdom is the first principle of creation, a cosmic seed that contains the whole universe as pure information.

Wisdom is too simple and contains too much information, so the role of understanding is to stretch out the heavens and develop, explain, and detail the ramifications of this seed. Knowledge is the process and final result of these interactions.

Acquisition of Wisdom

The Lord gives wisdom, and He stores up sound wisdom for the upright. (Proverbs 2:6-7)

Rejection of Wisdom

“How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?" - Proverbs 1:22

The Wise

Let the wise hear and increase in learning, / and the one who understands obtain guidance, / to understand a proverb and a saying, / the words of the wise and their riddles. - Proverbs 1:5-6

Wisdom Personified in Proverbs

Wisdom cries aloud in the street, / in the markets she raises her voice; - Proverbs 1:20

Wisdom is calling out in everyday places.

If you refuse her outstretched hand, she will laugh at your calamity when terror strikes you. Then you will seek her diligently, but she will not be found. You will eat the fruit of your way if you hate knowledge and do not choose the fear of the Lord. The simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them.

Whoever listens will dwell secure and be at ease without dread of disaster.

(Proverbs 1:20-33)

She is more precious than jewels. Long life is in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. Her ways are pleasantness and peace. She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her, and those who hold her fast are called blessed. (Proverbs 3:15-18)
