Sleep

My son, do not lose sight of these— / keep sound wisdom and discretion, / ... If you lie down, you will not be afraid; / when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. - Proverbs 3:21-27

Account

Adam's deep sleep

When no helper was found among the beasts of the earth, the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man. While he slept, the Lord God took one of his ribs, closed up its place with flesh, and made it into a woman. When he brought the woman to the man, the man took her as his wife.

(Genesis 2:18-25)

Abram's deep sleep

When the Lord was establishing the Abrahamic covenant with Abram, Abram asked how he was to know that he is to possess the promised land. The Lord instructed him to bring a specific offering, and Abram obeyed. When the sun was going down, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a dreadful and great darkness fell upon him. The Lord revealed the future of the nation that would descend from him.
