Greek Mythology
Jupiter, Jove, Zeus
He is the father and king of gods and men. Thunder was his weapon, born by the eagle, and Aegis was his shield. Saturn and Rhea were his Titan parents. Received his dominion over the heavens from Saturn. The Greek gods leisured in his Mount Olympus palace.
(Bulfinch's Mythology by Thomas Bulfinch, 1796. Page 9-11.)
History
Saturn was a monster who devoured his children. Jupiter escaped, grew up, espoused Metis (Prudence), who administered a draught to Saturn which caused him to disgorge his children. Jupiter led his brothers to vanquish the Titans and imprison some in Tartarus and punish others.
(Bulfinch's Mythology by Thomas Bulfinch, 1796. Page 11.)
Character
The ancients said of Jupiter that he was not at leisure to mind little things, but Jehovah condescends to care for the least of his creatures, and even looks into birds’ nests; will he not mercifully care for spirits who are heirs of a dread eternity?
