Saturn

Greek Mythology

Cronos

A Titan who fathered Jupiter by Rhea. He yielded his dominion to Jupiter and received dominion of Olympus with Rhea from Ophion and Eurynome.

His reign is said to have been the golden age of innocence and purity.

He was also described as a monster who devoured his children. This arises from Cronos (Time) bringing an end to all things which had a beginning - in other words, devouring its own offspring. Jupiter escaped, grew up, espoused Metis (Prudence), who administered a draught to Saturn which caused him to disgorge his children. Jupiter led his brothers to vanquish the Titans and imprison some in Tartarus and punish others.
