Gerald Lankester Harding, director of antiquities for the Kingdom of Jordan.

Early in 1949, G. Lankester Harding and Roland G. de Vaux, of the Dominic Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem, excavated cave one (1Q) where the initial discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls was made by Bedouin herders.
