Now Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah. - Genesis 25:1
- Name Meaning: "Bound up" (Bereshit Rabbah 61), "Incense" (Literal Word app)
- Husband: Abraham (Genesis 25:1)
- Sons: Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah (Genesis 25:2)
Story
Abraham takes another wife, Keturah, after Sarah died. She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.
Is she Hagar?
Apparently she is according to Jewish tradition? In Bereshit Rabbah 61, a Rav claims Hagar is the Keturah in Genesis 25, renamed to demonstrate her purity in not taking another man while separated from Abraham and wandering. (https://www.sefaria.org/Bereshit_Rabbah.61.4?lang=bi&with=all&lang2=en)
If so, "another wife" implies Hagar was a concubine until Abraham married her after Isaac's marriage.
Maybe she was a different person entirely, as a plain reading of Scripture suggests. Maybe there were three wives of Abraham, one of each son of Noah, connecting Abraham to all humanity. Lots of interpretations, idk.
