Clement

I Clement, II Clement; 1 Clement, 2 Clement

The first of early Rome's notable bishops. His pupils were Origen and Jerome.

His ministry can be seen as one of the bridges between the apostolic age and the age of the martyrs. Clement knew Peter, and Jerome said most held that he succeeded Peter. Jerome stated he died in the third year of Trajan, which would make him a contemporary of the Apostles in his early life and a co-laborer with Hermas, Ignatius, and Polycarp later in life.
