One of the books of the Bible considered apocryphal by Jerome-supporting Protestants and Deuterocanonical by Augustine-supporting Roman Catholics.
Draws heavily for its content upon certain Old Testament prophets and sages and is in the form of an address purportedly sent to the exiled Judeans in Babylonia. Its principal themes are the sin, punishment, and forgiveness of Israel.
