King Ahasuerus's eunuch who was in charge of the women in the first harem in Susa.
The first harem held beautiful virgins from all the provinces and prepared them with cosmetics and food. Each virgin went through a year-long beauty regimen with six months of oil of myrrh and six months with spices and ointments. When a virgin was called into the king in the evening, she would return to the second harem in Shaashgaz's care. (Esther 2:1-14)
Esther won Hegai's favor and was quickly provided her cosmetics and portion of food and seven chosen young women from the king's palace. Her and her young women were advanced to the best place in the harem. (Esther 2:8-14)
