Ecclesiasticus

AKA Wisdom of Jesus the Son of Sirach

One of the books of the Bible considered apocryphal by Jerome-supporting Protestants though accepted by Orthodox Christians.

Probably written about 180 B.C.

Valued highly by both Jews and Christians. The author was a scribe who wished to give his teachings a more permanent form, for which he utilized the canonical Proverbs as a model. His instruction adheres closely to Jewish orthodoxy, though the author shows Sadducean tendencies.

Fragments of it were found with the Dead Sea Scrolls.
